Graduate Programs
The Department of Arabic & Islamic Studies at Georgetown University offers M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. In addition to the information listed in this portion of our website, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page for answers to more specific questions.
In October 2013, Georgetown University’s graduate school approved changes to the degree programs offered in the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, namely merging the degree programs in “Arabic Literature and Linguistics” with those in “Islamic Studies.” That means that there are no longer two separate degrees being granted by the department but only one degree in ARABIC AND ISLAMIC STUDIES, with a concentration in either “Arabic Literature” or “Arabic Linguistics” or “Islamic Studies”; this degree program is offered at the M.A. and Ph.D. level. The change in degree program is going into effect with the academic year 2014–15. Upon applying, students have to indicate their concentration (Arabic Literature, Arabic Linguistics, or Islamic Studies).
For more information on the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Arabic and Islamic Studies, including requirements, please look at the new graduate handbook.
