Faisal Alzawaideh is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, where he teaches the department's intensive Arabic language sequence. He brings nearly twenty years of experience in language instruction, translation, and cultural consultancy across Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Prior to joining Georgetown, he taught Arabic at Indiana University Bloomington, where he received the Arabic program's 2024 Outstanding Associate Instructor award, and held teaching appointments at the University of Huddersfield, Fahad bin Sultan University, Tafila Technical University, and Qassim University. He is an Arabic–English translator and interpreter working across academic, legal, NGO, and healthcare contexts. He has also worked as an archival translator and researcher for a private family collection, transcribing and translating handwritten Arabic, Ottoman Turkish, and Hebrew documents and conducting archival research to identify and contextualize undated materials. Separately, he has consulted on Arabic language quality in artificial intelligence, developing Arabic grammar and sociopragmatic guidelines used to evaluate and improve the Arabic output of large language models.
His research lies at the intersection of interpersonal pragmatics, sociolinguistics, and digital communication, alongside a central interest in Arabic pedagogy and the teaching of Arabic as a foreign language. He earned his Ph.D. in Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures from Indiana University Bloomington (Arabic track) and holds an M.A. in Applied Linguistics and a B.A. in English Literature from Mutah University.
