Departmental Scholarships & Fellowships

The Department provides several types of merit-based financial aid to students:

The Department of Arabic & Islamic Studies Teaching Assistantship Scholarship offers an annual stipend scholarship ($33,150 in 2021-2022), full tuition scholarship for nine credits per semester and health insurance for five consecutive years. Students are required to work up to 15 hours per week for the first four years as a Teaching Assistant to a faculty member teaching a first-year, second-year, or third-year intensive Arabic course. Students will have a chance to serve as a Teaching Assistant for content courses depending on need, availability and student seniority. During year five, students receive non-service stipend scholarship that comes with no service obligation.
All U.S. and international PhD students who submit applications for full-time enrollment by scholarship deadline are considered for funding. Upon completion of the application review, you will be notified by separate letter if you have been awarded a merit-based scholarship or fellowship from the Arabic Department.
